Beginning in March and continuing until August I’ll be running listening workshops in Shoreham on the south coast of the UK.
"Echoes of Old Shoreham" is a community sound art project that captures and celebrates the rich sonic landscape and cultural heritage of Old Shoreham, exploring the inquisitive power invited by acts of listening, and listening beyond sound; to community, the hidden and unheard and the more than human.
This collaborative artwork invites residents to explore their historic surroundings, creating an audio portrait that spans the Shoreham Downs from the Adur valley to Thundersbarrow Hill.
We’ll make recordings using our mobile phones and portable audio recorders. Listening journals will collect written descriptions of our sound world, our relationship with it and imaginative and poetic responses. Sound maps will locate tranquil spaces, providing an important resource for the community to access.
The workshops will build towards an exhibition and multi speaker sound installation held at one of the oldest Churches in Sussex, St Nicolas.
The first session takes place at St Nicolas Church, Shoreham at 12.30 on the 15th March. To sign up email echoes@oldshoreham.org
